BSC Oregon
BSC Oregon, formerly Bridlemile Soccer Club, joined the BESThq community in 2011 as a growing youth competitive soccer club meeting in board members’ homes and local coffee shops.
Scot Thompson, then Executive Director, had a greater vision for the club, setting a lofty goal of building the best soccer club in Portland with the most qualified coaching staff operating from their own facilities.
Beginning as café members, BSC Oregon quickly became tenant members at BESThq’s original location and, given the opportunity, relocated to the current Beaverdam location where Scot’s vision for the club took root. Bridlemile Soccer Club evolved into BSC Portland which has subsequently grown into the regional organization BSC Oregon, with divisions in Hood River (BSC Hood River), Salem (BSC Valley), and Newberg (BSC Newberg).
As the club has grown, so have the numbers of graduating student-athletes and players performing at Division I, II, and III schools. Additionally, the quality of the BSC staff and coaches has improved and there is a marked increase in the numbers of locations BSC has partnered with. According to Thompson, “By 2017, the club will have partnerships with three artificial turf facilities which will allow more space and better training times for our kids. These are exciting times for our organization as we work to “change the game” in youth sports and give the sport back to our student athletes.”
Though Scot has passed the Executive Director baton on to Ryan Youngblood, he can feel proud of the work he and this amazing team have accomplished and, under new leadership, look forward to the continued growth and success of BSC Oregon.
